I often see comments on my TikTok videos of "my manager/HR doesn't care about me." On the flip side, I hear managers/HR say, "I don't know what I can or should say." That silence can be dangerous. 

Some example questions are:

• Why treating your people well matters (it's not just the right thing to do, it's protecting your #1 investment)
• Where "humanity" is lacking ("HR is not your friend!" "That's true! But HR's role needs to have care, but as a conduit, not a 'friend.'")
• Areas where organizations can add humanity (3 key skills for managers, policies and better 1:1 and team meetings)

"Quiet quitting" has become the term of the month. It started on TikTok, but has been all over the media. So is it a good thing... or bad? 

Some example questions are:

• Why I don't like the term (because it's been around forever, and is often employees "acting their wage")
• Why this seems to be an issue in the US more than other countries ("at-will employment" often means the power dynamics between employer and employee are skewed)
• Why the "quiet" part exists (when employees have often tried to raise it without success)
• What managers should do about it (creating empathy and action, including if managers feel like they need to "quiet quit")

I started as an employment lawyer for companies, but eventually added HR as well. That completely transformed my mindset and approach, as I saw so many legal issues could be avoided by better communication. But what are the roles of Legal and HR?

Some example questions are:

• Are both just to "protect" the company? (Legal is to protect and HR is a conduit, but both are better served by bringing reasonable approaches)
• Different "hats" (why it's important to clarify which role you are speaking from)
• How more disputes can be avoided (bringing a human approach)
• How I work with "opposing parties" (and why many junior attorneys and HR employees need better role models)

I started my @managermethod TikTok channel in January 2022. I posted every day, but changed the style of my videos. I had moderate success until July 2022, when I gained 100,000 followers in just over a month. 

Some example questions are:

• Why I started a business TikTok? (getting the courage to hit "post")
• Lessons learned along the way (changing content style and equipment)
• Thinking of topics (is Luke real??)
• How and when to start a TikTok (how to bring your unique value to the world)

I spent many years in the "grind," often prioritizing work above personal needs. When our family moved to Sydney, Australia, in 2016, it opened my eyes to new ways of living and working. Since returning to the US in 2018, I am laser-focused on creating a life that focuses on joy in all aspects, including work.
